Privacy & cookies

This page explains what data www.socmel.it collects, why and for how long, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In short: we collect the bare minimum and we never sell anything to anyone.

In-house statistics (no cookies)

To know how many people read the site, for each page view we record: the page address, the language, the referring site (domain name only, e.g. google.com), the device type (computer, phone or tablet) and a daily “fingerprint” obtained by irreversibly encrypting IP address and browser together with the date. The fingerprint changes every day, cannot be traced back to you and the IP address is never stored. No cookies are used for this. Legal basis: legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Retention: 13 months.

Google Analytics (only with your consent)

If you click “Accept” in the banner, we enable Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited. Google Analytics uses cookies (such as _ga) to measure visits and on-site behaviour in aggregate form. Google may transfer data to the United States under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. We do not enable advertising features or data sharing for ad personalisation. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time via the “Cookie preferences” link at the bottom of every page. If you reject, Google Analytics is not loaded.

Contributions, polls and quiz

If you send us a dialect word or a memory, we store the text, your name if you give it and the page language, together with an encrypted code of your IP address used only to limit abuse and spam. For polls we store the vote and the same encrypted code to prevent double voting; for the quiz, only the score, anonymously. We don’t ask for your email. Contributions are read before publication; the name you give appears next to the published text. You can ask at any time for your contribution to be changed or deleted.

Cookies used by the site

• lang (technical, 1 year): remembers the language you chose from the menu.
• consenso (technical, 6 months): remembers whether you accepted or rejected Google Analytics, so we don’t ask on every page.
• _ga, _ga_* (analytics, by Google): only if you accepted.

Technical cookies do not require consent. You can delete all cookies from your browser settings at any time.

Providers and external links

The site is hosted by Aruba S.p.A. in Italy, which keeps technical server logs for security reasons. “View on Amazon” links lead to Amazon.it, which processes data under its own privacy notice: Socmel! takes part in the Amazon Associates programme and receives no personal data about buyers. The share buttons (WhatsApp, Facebook) are plain links: they load nothing until you click them.

Your rights

You can request access to your data, rectification, erasure or restriction of processing, object to processing based on legitimate interest and withdraw consent at any time by writing to privacy@socmel.it. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (www.garanteprivacy.it) or the authority of your country.
