From the airport to central Bologna

Bologna’s airport, named after Guglielmo Marconi, is only a few kilometres from the centre. The easiest way into town is the Marconi Express monorail, which links the airport to the central railway station.

Marconi Express

• Journey time: about 7 and a half minutes, with one intermediate stop (Lazzaretto).
• Hours: every day from 5:40 am to midnight, with frequent departures.
• Price: €12.80 one way, €23.30 return (the return must be used within 30 days). Fares as of early 2026.
• Tickets: from machines at the airport and station, online, or by tapping a contactless card at the gates.

At the airport, go up to the Departures level, connected by a covered walkway. At Bologna Centrale you arrive in the Via de’ Carracci hall, on the north side of the station. If you’re travelling on by train, you can buy a single train + Marconi Express ticket on the Trenitalia website and app.

From the station to the centre

From the central station to Piazza Maggiore is about one and a half kilometres: on foot along Via Indipendenza, almost entirely under porticoes, it takes 15–20 minutes. Alternatively, many city buses run along Via Indipendenza.

By taxi

Taxis wait outside Arrivals. It’s the most convenient option if you have a lot of luggage or are staying outside the historic centre, but it costs more than the Marconi Express and rush-hour traffic can slow you down.
